Nearly two years ago Marvel CEO Kevin Feige announced to a packed Hall H crowd that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be rebooting the blockbuster Blade character and the Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali had been tapped to play our beloved vampire hunter character. Now, at last, the brand new Blade movie has a director. According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has hired Bassam Tariq to direct Ali in a live-action Blade movie set in the MCU.
According to the report, a deal between Marvel and Tariq isn’t officially done yet, but both sides are in the talks on the project and Marvel is clearly interested in hiring the filmmaker. Tariq is well-known for directing the movie called Mogul Mowgli, which starred Riz Ahmed as an up-and-coming rapper on the verge of his big break. Writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour was hired by Marvel to write the Blade screenplay who is also known for writing Watchmen and Hunters and as always, Kevin Feige will be producing.
Finally Tariq’s hiring will bring an end to a long search conducted by Marvel Studios after several directors take meetings and deliver pitches for a potential Blade movie. After a few rounds, Tariq ended up getting the job.
Fans were so excited and keep asking Marvel Studios about a new Blade Movie and long before Ali walked out on the stage at San Diego Comic Con. However, the curiosity about the vampire hunter have only multiplied since the announcement. But until now there’s no announcement about when exactly the Blade movie will be hitting theaters. At least the creative team is now in place. There could be more news about Blade in the near future.
There was a report earlier this year suggesting that Blade could be in the production next summer, which would give Tariq and the rest of the production team more than enough time to get everything done.
